Meet Dr. India…

Our founder, Dr. India Barkley, D.Ac is a tenured Doctor of Acupuncture, an educator, clinician, and Reiki master/teacher. As a former professor at the New York College of Health Professions, she ranked as one of the only Black female educators in NYC for acupuncture. Dr. India has strived to advance the ethical and patient-centered practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Reiki healing in a clinical setting from a BIPOC lens. With a background steeped in intuitive practices, energy medicine, and higher education, she has pioneered the integration of acupuncture and Reiki treatments as a viable alternative for safe, non-pharmacological, non-surgical options for healing and wellness. Her methods and philosophy emphasize a “Yin” or gentle and compassionate approach rooted in body/mind and emotional safety. Dr. India teaches how the Yin energy isn't just a receiver or container of energy, but an energy that channels and cycles itself through, much like the Earth herself.. Therefore, her modalities encourage right action and guidance of energy based on inherent and innate needs being met as opposed to peripheral and external demands guiding our wellness.

Dr. India received her Doctorate of Acupuncture from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, California. She is a licensed acupuncturist in the state of New York, a Reiki practitioner and Master Teacher of 10+ years, a former professor of Acupuncture, Oriental Sciences & Physical Arts at New York College of Health Professions and a highly skilled and intuitive practitioner of the Energy Medicine. Dr. India is currently practicing in the nature adjacent Hudson Valley area in Poughkeepsie, NY. As an active clinician, her goal is to continue providing quality integrative care as an act of resistant to the current paradigm of modern day stress.

As a Reiki Master/Teacher and practitioner of the Usui System of Natural Healing she formulated and created the HEAL WITH YIN - Reiki Master Teacher Certification series. The certification is designed to “attune” practitioners to subtle energy patterns and teach them how to interpret their innate intuitive abilities to perceive, understand and treat physical and emotional imbalances. Reiki level’s 1 through 3 are a monthly series Dr. India is currently teaching in Wappingers, NY at the River Valley Arts Center.

Dr. India is also certified acupuncture detoxification specialist (NADA) and has worked in underserved communities .She has extensive clinical and therapeutic experience from various community clinics throughout New York City. She is particularly dedicated to improving the lives of women and specializes in treating women’s bodies and their unique energy systems with Chinese Medicine and Reiki. In doing so, her philosophy is intended to educate women about the subtle ways the body communicates patterns of dis-ease and the many forms of non-pharmacological and non-surgical solutions for them.
